Last Sunday (17th of Sivan) there was a captivating lecture, given by Prof. Avi Shroeder, at our Ma'ale Efraim branch of Bnei David. Prof. Shroeder is a graduate of our 7th annual class and is a professor of chemical engineering at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology). His main area of expertise and research is nanotechnology and its utilization in the treatment of cancers. That was also the subject of the lecture.
We sat spellbound throughout the lecture that was given orally and using slides. We heard an introduction about nanotechnology, how it's used in medical research and development, and of course something about the latest research projects currently going on in the treatment of cancer. We asked questions, were filled with curiousity and were very impressed by the technological, or more exactly the Nano technological advances being made today.
Prof. Shroeder even showed us one a slide in which we saw a tiny piece of silicon that had the entire Tanach inscribed on it! After hearing all that we heard the obvious question was asked: when will all this be ready for clinical use on actual patients? We were happy to hear that – God-willing – some of these innovations are already in use and more are on the way.
