Last week we went roaming throughout Samaria, Judea and the Negev in order to visit with our students now serving in the army.
Rabbi Yoel Rechel, a reserve officer and rabbi at Bnei David who is in over-all command of keeping in touch with our students currently serving in the army, wherever they may be, went early in the morning together with Yair Goldberg who in charge of our 27th class and Alon Niker who is in charge of our 28th class (and was a physical training officer in the army and now serves Bnei David as our legendary physical trainer) – and off they went to the IDF School for Non-Commissioned Officers in the Negev near the town of Yerocham. There they visited with many of our alumni who are presently in a NCO course. In a Torah class given before Mincha there were about twenty of our students. Some were missing because they were in the middle of navigating exercises – but out trio decided not to surrender the opportunity to meet with more of our alumni, so off they went to find those students in the course of their navigating in the Goral Hills in the Negev.
From there they went to the base in Ketziot to our students who have started not long ago to serve in the Givati infantry brigade. They also met with some officers and NCOs, including the deputy commander of the training base.
They decided to return home via Route 60, the highway that is the backbone of the Land of Israel, from Beer Sheva through Chevron and to the north. On the way they met with more students on active duty in Chevron and in the Gush Etzion area, where right in front of their eyes there was an attempt by a lone terrorist to run over peopleat the GUsg Etzion Junction. They could see the soldiers performing admirably in containing the incident with no one hurt on our side.
